ABOUT ME

IMG_6100.HEIC

Hello there! I'm Macie Batson, a passionate journalist and the previous editor-in-chief of Loyola University New Orleans’ award-winning college newspaper. I recently graduated in May 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in English Writing and Mass Communication, specializing in Journalism.

When I'm not nose-deep in a good book, you'll find me writing or editing stories. I'm proud to have been recognized for my journalistic skills, including placing in the Top 20 finalists in the Hearst Journalism Awards for Feature Writing. My team and I at The Maroon have been honored with some great awards, like the Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press, a Society of Professional Journalists Region 12 Mark of Excellence Award, and the Corbin Gwaltney Award for Best All-Around Student Newspaper in April 2022.

As a journalist, my ultimate goal is to become the editor of a renowned newspaper and always continue to improve my craft. I strongly believe in the importance of freedom of the press and speech, and that it's our responsibility as journalists to educate society and always spread the truth. In addition to my studies, I've interned with NOLA Messenger and the New Orleans Review and earned a certificate in editing and publishing. I'm a hard-working go-getter with a passion for teamwork and leadership.
